Team PCBC Takes on the Cypress Challenge (2025)

Team PCBC recently took on the Cypress Challenge, joining the annual climb up Cypress Mountain in support of pancreatic cancer research.

The Cypress Challenge is a community fundraising event that brings together teams and individuals to raise awareness and funds for pancreatic cancer initiatives across British Columbia. Participants complete a demanding ascent of Cypress Mountain, symbolizing the resilience and determination required in the fight against pancreatic cancer.

IDEAS Grant Competition (2023) Results

Pancreas Centre BC is pleased to announce Dr. Andrew Minchinton as the 2023 recipient of the IDEAS Grant Competition. The project funded is titled “Targeting hypoxia in pancreatic cancers: turning a liability into a therapeutic benefit”.

DR.STEVEN GALLINGER AND TEAM RECEIVE $7.5 MILLION CCS BREAKTHROUGH GRANT

The research team led by Dr. Steven Gallinger was awarded a Canadian Cancer Society Breakthrough Grant for the project entitled ‘Establishing a comprehensive research strategy to improve pancreatic cancer survival’. More information can be found using this link.

PANCREAS CENTRE BC RECEIVES RECORD $5 MILLION DONATION FROM HAGER FAMILY

Today is World Pancreatic Cancer Day and everyone at Pancreas Centre BC is honoured to accept a record $5 million donation from the Hager family, in memory of Bob Hager. As a joint initiative between The Vancouver General Hospital Foundation and the BC Cancer Foundation, we are extremely grateful for this donation and the continued support from the Hager family as we celebrate the 10-year anniversary of our centre. Together, we continue to accelerate pancreatic cancer research. @pancreasBC

Pancreas Centre BC Student Travel Award Application Now Available

Pancreas Centre BC is now accepting applications for $1000 student travel awards. Award information can be found on the application attached.

With this award, we aim to increase the outreach of pancreatic cancer research done in British Columbia and support trainees looking to highlight their research at national and international conferences.

Pancreas Centre BC researchers lead a new national study to investigate metastatic pancreatic cancer

Drs. Renouf and Schaeffer are leading a new pan-Canadian research project titled Enhanced Pancreatic Cancer Profiling for Individualized Care, funded by the Terry Fox Research Institute. EPPIC looks at DNA and RNA sequenced from metastatic pancreatic cancer tumours to improve understanding as to why some individuals receive treatment better than others. The $5-million funding from the Terry Fox Research Institute will support the sequencing of metastatic pancreatic tumours that EPPIC aims to do for 400 patients in Quebec, Ontario, Alberta and B.C. and expand the program across Canada.

Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Forum: November 25, 2017

The annual Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Forum (PCAF) is an educational day for patients with pancreatic cancer as well as their families and supporters. The PCAF includes several educational talks regarding surgical advances, clinical trials, nutrition, genetics and much more. This year’s Forum will be held on Saturday, November 25th 2017 from 9:00am to 12:30pm.

$410, 000 Raised at 10th Annual Cypress Challenge

Nearly 700 cyclists took to Cypress Mountain for the 10th Annual Glotman Simpson Cypress Challenge on Sunday, raising an incredible $410,000 for the BC Cancer Foundation.

The event, presented by Buntain Insurance and ZLC Financial, has now raised over $2.5 million to advance research for one of the deadliest cancers facing Canadians today – pancreatic. All proceeds benefit the 600 British Columbians expected to be diagnosed with the disease every year, most of whom will not survive their first year post-diagnosis.

Dr. Sharon Gorski receives 2017 Neuroendocrine Tumor Research Foundation – American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Grant

Dr. Gorski, a scientist at the BC Cancer Agency, has recently been awarded a two-year Neuroendocrine Tumor Research Foundation – AACR grant for a project focused on the proteogenomic analysis of pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PNETs). PNETs are rare tumours but their incidence has been increasing. There are few therapeutic options for advanced PNETs due in part to the limited knowledge of disease subtypes and prognostic biomarkers which would help guide treatment choice and the development of novel therapies.
