Highlights from Pancreas Centre BC’s Research Symposium 2017

Pancreas Centre BC held a Pancreatic Cancer Research Symposium on May 29th 2017 at the Diamond Health Care Centre. Over 40 people attended the invitation-only workshop that featured presentations from IDEAS grant holders and other pancreatic cancer researchers as well as trainees from UBC and the BC Cancer Agency. A variety of projects and topics were discussed including those related to new therapeutic targets for pancreatic cancer, novel biomarkers for early detection, pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours and personalized medicine.

Dr. Dan Renouf receives the prestigious MSFHR Health Professional-Investigator Award

Dr. Dan Renouf, the co-director of Pancreas Centre BC, is one of the 11 recipients of the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research Health Professional-Investigator Award in its inaugural competition. This highly competitive salary award acknowledges Dr. Renouf’s clinical leadership role in a pan-Canadian initiative to molecularly characterize metastatic pancreatic cancer in order to develop individualized treatment options.

Pancreas Centre BC Research Symposium 2017

On May 29th 2017, Pancreas Centre BC is hosting a Pancreatic Cancer Research Symposium. IDEAS grant holders as well as other local pancreatic cancer researchers have been invited to discuss their current projects and network with fellow colleagues. A variety of basic and translational pancreatic cancer research topics will be covered at this one-day workshop.

CYPRESS CHALLENGE BREAKS $2 MILLION RAISED!

On August 14, 2016, the 9th Annual Glotman-Simpson Cypress Challenge raised nearly $400,000 towards pancreatic cancer research.

PCBC Team Received 2016 CIHR Project Grant To Study The Tumour Microenvironemnt of PDAC.

The research team led by Principal Investigator Dr. Michael Underhill and co-investigators Dr. Kim Wiegand and Dr. David Schaeffer was awarded a Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR) Grant for the project entitled ‘Defining Activated Stromal Signatures and Targeting the Tumour Microenvironment of Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma’.

Drs. Underhill and Wiegand received a 2013 PCBC IDEAS Grant that formed the basis for this successful grant application.

2016 CYPRESS CHALLENGE REGISTRATION

The 9th Annual Glotman Simpson Cypress Challenge bike race is open for registration.

The event will take place on Sunday August 14, 2016. 100% of all the money raised goes to the BC Cancer Foundation's Pancreas Centre BC. In 2015 about 675 cyclists took part, helping to raise over $438,000 for pancreatic cancer research!
